The brief was to produce a series of typographic panels based on the quotes about creativity and the creative process. I chose the “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see” by Henry David Thoreau. I researched vision and different ways people can interpret the world. From my research I was able to explore different techniques that could be seen as distorting the quote, or obscuring it, like the symptoms of different visual impairments.
The final panels were displayed in a tracing paper wallet, further obscuring them from the viewer. The series of panels covered a wide range of techniques, from stencilling, cutting, sticking, more printing and mixing techniques. Using the same typeface throughout and a limited colour palette allowed the panels to all work in unity, even though they were all different.
