Name Clutha comes from Gaelic for Clyde river where the distillery is located. No. 12 was the last steamboat line crossing river Clyde back in the 19th century when Glasgow was the 2nd city in the British empire and swinging at it's best. Visual design key was center line with word blocks on each side -  symbolizing river Clyde and movement across it.
